Zambian referee Janny Sikazwe is at the center of the controversy in the ongoing AFCON 2021 in Cameroon. Janny Sikwaze blew the final whistle of the match between Tunisia and Mali at the 89th minute of play when the Mali Eagles were leading by 1-0
The Zambian referee’s decision sparked anger and misunderstanding on the Tunisian bench, who vainly tried to convey to the referee that there were still seconds left in regular and additional time.
After several minutes of hesitation, CAF officials decided to continue the match when the two teams had already returned to the locker room. In the end, the Malian team returned to the field, while the Tunisian team refused, calling for full match replay.
This case raised a dark story of Zambian referee Janny Sikwazein which he was provisionally suspended by CAF for corruption in 2018 and was rehabilitated in January 2019.
Here is CAF’s decision at the time
