Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is apparently considering leaving Bayern for Qatar. The striker’s contract runs until 2023.
After Robert Lewandowski, his replacement apparently also plans to say goodbye to FC Bayern this summer. As Bild reports, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is not opposed to a change and would flirt with a commitment to Qatar. The 33-year-old is contractually tied to the German champions until 2023. With a year left on his current contract, the Indomitable Lion’s future at Bayern is in doubt as the club strive to bring fresh blood into the offensive department. Sadio Mané (Liverpool) and Sasa Kalajdzic (Stuttgart) are both linked with the German champions, who will also welcome young striker Joshua Zirkzee back from loan at Anderlecht. According to reports, in the Cameroonian’s case, unlike Lewandowski, Bayern are said to be ready to discuss if a market-driven offer is made.
Choupo-Moting came to Munich from Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in 2020 and accepted Lewandowski’s replacement role without complaint from the start. When he had his chance, the Cameroonian international has often been able to impress with great performances. So far, he has played 57 competitive matches for FCB. He scored 18 goals and 6 assists.
If Choupo-Moting did indeed leave Bayern and Lewandowski was also cleared for a switch at the end of the current transfer tussle, there would be a significant gap in the German champion’s attacking centre. The courted Sadio Mané of Liverpool FC is not considered a classic centre-forward.
