BISHOP NKUO URGES CHRISTIANS TO DRIVE OUT EVIL FROM KUMBO: On Thursday 15 August 2019, Catholic faithful in the Diocese of Kumbo joined Catholics worldwide to celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Big Day Maria). It is the day on which the Catholic Church celebrates that the Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.
Msgr. George Nkuo, Bishop of Kumbo, presided at the Eucharistic celebration in St. Theresia Cathedral Kumbo. He took the opportunity to give out his usual Big Day Maria message to the diocese, something he has been accustomed to doing in recent years. Speaking as the voice of the voiceless, the Bishop noted that “the dragon, that monstrous sign of evil has entered Kumbo and taken over many Christians; it is the evil dragon of violence, torture, kidnappings, and asking for unreasonable ransoms; it is a crime against humanity and a great exploitation that we use our children’s right to education as a bargain to push forward our political propaganda”.
The local Bishop reminded the faithful that violence begets violence and hatred bears fruit to more hatred. “History will stand to judge us,” he warned. He urged all not to stay indifferent to the killings and destruction, and challenged all the faithful in the diocese to examine themselves thus: “Is my faith like that of Mary? Do I believe in the power of the Resurrection and the Holy mass?” Bishop Nkuo asked that all the faithful and people within the diocese “drive out that evil dragon which scares people away from Kumbo”. The on-going armed conflict has taken its toll on the diocese of Kumbo, with many deaths having been recorded and thousands of persons displaced. Kumbo | 15 August 2019 Radio Evangelium Kumbo
