JOY IN WAINAMAH AS THE BLESSED SACRAMENT IS REINSTALLED
Thursday 12 December 2019 will always be a day to remember for the Christians of Sacred Heart Pastoral Zone, Wainamah, as the Blessed Sacrament was reinstalled in the new Parish Church. Catholic faithful from the 13 Mission stations that make up the Pastoral Pone were joined in the celebration by some Traditional authorities, Protestant Christians and Moslems. All rallied at the main entrance to the Church along the Bamenda-Kumbo highway to welcome Mgr. George Nkuo, who was also the main celebrant of Eucharistic celebration. Also present for the occasion was the Provincial of religious order of the Sons of the Immaculate Conception, Fr. Jerome Mih, C.F.I.C., given that this pastoral zone is under the pastoral care of the priests of this religious order – Fr. Cyprian Obioha, C.F.I.C. (priest-in-charge) and Fr. Basil Akijika, C.F.I.C. (assistant).
After the welcome address by Fr. Cyprian Obioha in his capacity as Priest-in-Charge of Wainamah, Bishop George continued to preside over the Holy Mass that started at 9:20 a.m. He first took the opportunity to bless the new Church, that it may be a worthy dwelling place for God and a befitting meeting ground between God and man.

In his homily, the Bishop noted among other things that given the strategic geographical location of Wainamah, and given that it is the gateway into Kumbo Diocese, “Wainamah is to be the eye-catcher Church” in the Diocese and so the people must keep working hard to becoming a parish as soon as possible.” He noted with gratitude that the people have been so hardworking, and have not given up although they have been hard-struck by the current crisis. Wainamah had been known as the “hot spot” of the crisis in Kumbo.
Mgr. George highlighted, therefore, that the people should avoid turning the Church into a social club, njangi house, or traditional meeting house. Instead, he prayed that the Church becomes a place where people meet God, renew their dedication to him, and have their sins forgiven. He then proceeded to bless the new Tabernacle where the Blessed Sacrament would be reinstalled.

Shortly before the final blessing, there was fundraising. Many groups, individuals and parishes donated towards the continuation of the construction of the new Church, called by some a “small basilica”.
Speaking at the occasion, the Zonal Pastoral Council Chairperson thanked all present and those who had donated their support for the project. Also, Fr. Jerome Mih, as Provincial of CFIC, thanked the people for the care and support given to the priests and promised their continuous collaboration with the people. After final blessings groups continued the animation and entertainment outside.
Sacred Heart Pastoral Zone Wainamah was created by Bishop George Nkuo in July 2018. It has thirteen outstations and was carved out of Christ the King Parish, Jakiri. Since its creation, it has been administered by the Conceptionist priests. As the days go ahead things look better for them, in a Church at a very strategic front of the current crisis as it has been a deadly battlefront.
