Yesterday 18 August 2020, elements of the Malian Armed Forces began a mutiny. Soldiers on pick-up trucks stormed the Soundiata military base in the town of Kati, where gunfire was exchanged before weapons were distributed from the armory and senior officers arrested including the president and prime minister

Reacting to the incident, Kenyan professor and human rights activist PLO Lumumba has criticized the act. However to him, this should serve as a warning to old ruling African presidents Alpha Conde, Paul Biya, Laurent Quattara and others
