Edouard Mendy calls Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah an inspiration to many youths for their continued successes in very high levels of competitive football Mendy was speaking during a World Economic Forum where he was a guest speaker alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino and former Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger among others.




Mane and Salah will have another chance to claim silverware when they play Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris this Saturday Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has sung glowing tributes to Liverpool’s duo of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

Mendy has labeled the two forwards as an inspiration to many youths in Africa. Mendy stated that the two, who have led very impressive careers, are true examples and role models to young people

The shot-stopper was speaking at the World Economic Forum where he was part of the panel that was discussing Sports as a Unifying Force. He participated in the discussion with a host of top personalities including FIFA’s President Gianni Infantino.




Others present included legendary coach Arsene Wenger, the head of African football Patrice Motsepe and retired striker Ronaldo in the conference held in Davos, Switzerland.

According to Goal, Mendy said that the two strikers were not only the best players in Africa but far and beyond.’ When you see African players, people like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, who really play at the highest possible level, then we talk about the best world players not just the best African players and I think this is what we need to focus on They are true examples, role models and give hope to young people, making them desire to work and exceed the limits to achieve one goal. This is how football has impacted on the social level in all countries around the world’.




Mendy himself has had a remarkable rise to stardom. He joined Chelsea from Rennes in 2020 and went on to win the Champions League. He was subsequently voted as FIFA’s Best Goalkeeper of 2021.

He then helped his Senegal side to their maiden Africa Cup of Nations title this year. He has however been unlucky against Liverpool twice in the domestic cups after penalty shootout losses. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are currently preparing to face Real Madrid in the Champions League final. The two, together with Karim Benzema, are the front runners for this year’s Ballon d’Or award.
