A few days after the controversy concerning the match which pitted them against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, the Fennecs of Algeria expressed their desire to play against Senegal in a friendly.
A wish that was displayed a few months before the start of the biggest competition in the world but also qualifications for the African Cup Côte d’Ivoire 2023. The request from the Algerian football governing body was sent to the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) by the match-maker, Pierre Inquiel, according to the Record newspaper.
The newspaper reports that Algeria wanted to meet the Lions between June 12 and 14 in Algiers. A request that could not be honored by the Lions of Senegal.
“There is no sporting advantage to play against Algeria at the moment” decided the FSF according to Record. The source adds that coach Aliou Cissé does not even want to hear of such a meeting.
“There is no question of it since Senegal gains absolutely nothing from it, insists an anonymous source from the newspaper. Even the players will not be motivated. This is the reason why the coach did not even want to talk about it,” reports the newspaper.
